Well, we survived the first day of school! Hooray!

In block class (reading/writing) we discussed the agendas, schedules, and classroom rules and rules for common areas (lunchroom, etc.)

In electives, we discussed how the four quarters will be broken down. We will begin keyboarding next week. Their goal is to be able to type 25 wpm by the end of the quarter, without looking at their hands. Grades will be based on attitude and effort. Encouragement of students who are slower is greatly appreciated!

Science: we discussed how the class will be broken down for the year, and checked out science books.

Cartooning: Students completed a questionnaire about their favorite cartoons/comics, and why they liked them. Homework: think about whether you want to make cartoon strips or a comic book and what type of characters you are interested in creating (i.e. animals, people, etc.) Extra credit for anyone bringing comic books or cartoons to class on Thursday.
